Overview

This project consists of construction of a new 84,000 square foot building, which includes a two-storey Administration wing connected to a single storey vehicle storage garage. 

The administration portion of the building will provide space for offices, training, and locker facilities for paramedics, management, and administrative support staff.  The vehicle storage garage includes a vehicle wash system, an active bay, and provides indoor storage for up to 22 ambulances and additional support vehicles. The building consists of a steel frame structure on spread footings and concrete foundation walls. Ground floor slabs are constructed as slab-on-grade, and suspended floors are constructed with concrete placed in a 38 mm composite deck supported on joists and beams.  Exterior finishes include a combination of curtain wall framing, fibre cement board, and decorative high pressure compact laminate panels and metal siding. 

The mechanical systems include in-floor heating in all floor slabs, a dedicated outdoor air supply unit, serving a mix of variable air volume boxes, room diffusers, and active chilled beams.  Building conditioning is served by natural gas boilers and air-cooled water chillers.  Rain water is collected from the roof drainage system and directed to holding tanks installed below grade, then filtered and pumped into the building to supply non-potable water to toilers, the vehicle wash system, and irrigation. The electrical systems include power distribution, emergency generator and distribution, lighting, voice and data systems, and rough-in work for various systems.  The project also includes a roof mounted photo-voltaic system that will be connected to the building’s electrical distribution.

The facility will be designed as a Post-Disaster Recovery Building and is expected to achieve LEED V4 Silver status.
