STM Crémazie Complex
STM Crémazie Complex
Owned by the STM, the Crémazie Complex is one of the city’s main public bus operations facilities. Rebuilding and expansion of the Complex will replace the vast maintenance facility with a new multifunctional three-storey building.
Rebuilding and Expanding
With a total area of over 450,000 square feet, the Crémazie Complex is one of the main public bus depots in the city of Montreal.
The reconstruction and expansion of the Complex have replaced the large maintenance facility with a new three-story multifunctional building. Launched in 2017, the construction project for the new multifunctional building replaces the original structure, which dated back to 1948.
The new building is designed to meet current maintenance needs and space requirements resulting from the growing fleet of buses, as well as to accommodate new technologies. It brings together various company departments, including bus maintenance, a supply center, training, engineering, and bus planning. The building features underground parking, new mechanical lines with jacks, and industrial spaces.
New offices and training spaces complement the renovated facilities and equipment dedicated to staff.
Consolidation and Efficiency
The STM’s Crémazie Complex project will bring together the manufacturing, tooling, and component repair areas, as well as the distribution center. This will optimize operations and supply chain management by consolidating bus maintenance functions that were previously spread across different sites.
Indoor parking spaces are also planned for the buses, particularly to facilitate repairs during the long winter months. The expansion and modernization of the mechanical line will lead to more efficient results thanks to state-of-the-art facilities.
Continuing Operations
The reconstruction of the Crémazie Complex was carried out in three phases. Each phase included a demolition and preparatory work stage. This included, among other things, the relocation of certain building services and the construction of temporary walls (interior and/or exterior).
Bus maintenance operations will continue to be carried out by the STM throughout the duration of the work. To ensure the continuity of some of the client’s operations, this major project is organized into three phases, spread over a period of approximately five years.
LEED® Gold
The project aims for LEED Gold certification by incorporating sustainability measures such as green roofs, heat recovery systems, natural light optimization, and highly reflective white roofs, among others.
