The project of the Integrated Cancer Center at la Cité de la Santé hospital in Laval included the construction of a pavilion with clinical, technical and mechanical areas on 43,800 SF of floor space. It houses in particular four linear accelerators, 30 chemotherapy treatment areas, radiotherapy and brachytherapy treatment rooms, and a patient information center.
The good conditions linked to the project, in particular the quality and clarity of the project documents, made it possible to deliver it almost 6 months before the end of the deadlines.
The construction of the building is rather traditional, with a 2-storey metal structure, but the use of X-rays, armored doors and specialized equipment required the use of high-density concrete, rarely used in construction. A corridor connects the hospital to the emergency room of the Cité-de-la-Santé Hospital.
The building has received LEED certification for New Constructions, mostly thanks to a system of geothermal energy and of recovery of the heat produced by some of the specialized equipment, a thermal wheel, occupancy sensors controlling lighting and ventilation, and a new highly efficient electric steam boiler.
