Overview

The renovation of the Main Street Skytrain station was the first of numerous upgrades to stations built more than 30 years ago. The planning, programming, coordination and execution of such a large effort, involving the complexity of work sequencing within a fully operational station did not only require construction expertise in realizing the tendering and site construction activities, but also the project management and planning skills at the outset to properly assess and plan the logistics and required skill sets to design the physical space and effect optimized traffic and user movement management.
Improvements at this station concentrated on accessibility standards, improving the transfer experience for passengers, and increasing the capacity of the Expo line. They included:
• An expanded stationhouse;
• Two new entrances;
• New escalators, stairs and elevator to increase capacity and improve accessibility;
• An open station design with better lighting and visibility for a safer and improved customer experience;
• A new bike parkade.
