Health and Safety
For maters applicable to workers health and safety, authorities in Québec have instituted a set of laws recognized as the "Loi sur la santé et la sécurité du travail".
This legislation is applicable to all workers regardless of their trade. For the specific needs of the construction industry the Commission de la Santé et de la Sécurité du Travail du Québec (CSST) publishes a manual entitled Code de sécurité pour les travaux de construction S-2.1, r-6. This manual describes the rights, obligations and duties of the employer and employees. Both of whom are obliged to be fluent with all requirements as applicable to their trade or specialty.
With respect to work performed in British Columbia, we subscribe to the "WorkSafeBC" work-insurance plan. This insurance will compensate the employees in the event of accident or disease, but also requires the employer to develop a health and safety program with the minimum content as detailed by the plan.
The CSST and "WorkSafeBC" require that a health and safety program be set up prior to starting site work. This program must be placed in a common area available to all workers. The application of the guidelines is compulsory.
Despite these expectations, at Magil we go further. Our motto is zero tolerance! We have an established corporate policy on prevention having expectations that exceed those legislated and prescribed. It is a commitment to workers and to the community. For each project, we assign a health and safety officer whose only task is to ensure a safe workplace.
